| Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT |
| Lesson Topic: Know and understand analysing the needs of an audience when creating ICT solutions |
Learning Objective/s:
- Describe the purpose and benefits of audience analysis for ICT solutions.
- Identify and gather key demographic, psychographic, and contextual data about target users.
- Create a user persona that summarises audience needs and informs design decisions.
- Apply audience insights to select appropriate content, interface, functionality and accessibility features.
- Evaluate a prototype against the audience analysis checklist.
|
Materials Needed:
- Projector or interactive whiteboard
- Computer with internet access for each group
- Printed worksheet with audience analysis checklist
- Sample survey/questionnaire template
- Persona template handout (including space for photo)
- Sticky notes and markers for brainstorming
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “Who designs a solution without thinking about who will use it?” Discuss common failures and highlight today’s success criteria – students will be able to analyse an audience, build a persona, and link findings to design choices.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑Now (5'): Students list examples of ICT tools that failed because of poor audience understanding.
- Mini‑lecture (10'): Explain key steps of audience analysis and show the checklist.
- Group activity – Data gathering (15'): Teams design a short survey and record demographic/psychographic data for a chosen audience.
- Persona creation (10'): Using the template, each group builds a persona and posts it on the board.
- Design mapping (10'): Groups match persona insights to content, interface, functionality and accessibility decisions.
- Peer review (5'): Quick checklist walk‑through; groups give feedback on each other’s analysis.
- Reflection & exit ticket (5'): Students write one actionable change they would make to a real ICT project based on today’s analysis.
|
Conclusion:
Recap the audience analysis process and how personas guide design choices. Collect exit tickets and remind students to complete the checklist as homework, applying it to their ongoing ICT project.
