Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Global Perspectives & Research
Lesson Topic: use research to support judgements about arguments and perspectives
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the CRAAP criteria and evaluate source credibility.
  • Analyse quantitative and qualitative data to identify patterns and calculate basic statistics.
  • Construct a well‑structured argument that links evidence to a claim and addresses counter‑perspectives.
  • Apply a systematic research‑to‑judgement process to a case study (e.g., solar power).
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed handout of the CRAAP table
  • Sample data set (survey results on renewable energy)
  • Calculators or spreadsheet software
  • Rubric checklist for argument construction
  • Laptops/tablets for online research
Introduction:

Begin with a headline claim about solar power and ask students what evidence they would need to accept it. Recall previous lessons on identifying bias and evaluating sources. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to produce a justified judgement using researched evidence.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students write down what evidence they would require for the opening claim.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Overview of the research process and the CRAAP test with real‑world examples.
  3. Source evaluation activity (15'): In pairs, assess provided primary and secondary sources using the CRAAP checklist.
  4. Data analysis workshop (15'): Create charts from the sample survey, calculate percentages/means, and discuss patterns.
  5. Argument construction (20'): Groups outline an argument on solar power, linking evidence and addressing counter‑perspectives using the supplied structure.
  6. Peer review (10'): Exchange outlines and give feedback using the rubric checklist.
  7. Exit ticket (5'): Write one sentence summarising how their research supports their claim.
Conclusion:

Recap the key steps from source selection to judgement, highlighting how each piece of evidence was linked to the claim. Collect exit tickets to gauge understanding, and assign homework to locate and evaluate two additional sources for a different global issue.
