Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Global Perspectives & Research
Lesson Topic: consider the extent and limits of the learning and research that has been undertaken
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the purpose of reflection within Global Perspectives & Research.
  • Analyse the extent and limits of students’ own research using a reflective model.
  • Evaluate methodological strengths, weaknesses and biases identified in the research.
  • Develop a concise action plan to address identified gaps for future inquiry.
  • Apply a chosen reflective framework (e.g., Gibbs, Rolfe, or Kolb) to produce a structured reflective paragraph.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Printed handouts of Gibbs’, Rolfe et al., and Kolb reflective models
  • Worksheet with key reflective questions and assessment checklist
  • Student laptops or tablets
  • Whiteboard and markers
Introduction:

Show a short video of a researcher reflecting on their findings to spark interest. Prompt students to recall how they have previously evaluated their own work in other subjects. Explain that today they will critically examine the scope and limitations of their research and produce a concise reflective summary using a chosen model.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5') – Students write two strengths and two weaknesses from their recent research on sticky notes.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10') – Explain why assessing extent and limits matters and introduce Gibbs, Rolfe, and Kolb models.
  3. Model comparison activity (10') – In pairs, complete a Venn diagram comparing the three models.
  4. Guided reflection writing (15') – Using the worksheet, answer the six key questions and draft a paragraph with the chosen model.
  5. Peer feedback (10') – Exchange drafts and use the assessment checklist to give constructive comments.
  6. Action‑plan development (5') – Add three specific next steps to address identified gaps.
  7. Whole‑class debrief (5') – Summarise common themes and restate the success criteria.
Conclusion:

Recap how analysing limits strengthens future inquiry and aligns with assessment criteria. Students submit an exit ticket that records one limitation and one actionable step. For homework, they refine their reflective paragraph and upload it to the class portal.
