| Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT |
| Lesson Topic: Know and understand impact of emerging technologies on everyday life including Artificial Intelligence (AI), extended reality (virtual and augmented) |
Learning Objective/s:
- Identify and compare at least four different types of computer systems and their typical users.
- List and describe the core hardware components found in any computer system.
- Explain how AI is integrated into everyday devices and evaluate one ethical issue related to its use.
- Distinguish between Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) and give a real‑world example of each.
- Analyse the impact of emerging technologies (AI, XR) on daily life and propose responsible‑use strategies.
|
Materials Needed:
- Projector or interactive whiteboard
- Printed worksheets and checklist handouts
- Laptops or tablets for each group
- Demo videos of AI voice assistants and AR applications
- QR codes linking to a simple AR experience
- Kahoot/online quiz platform for exit ticket
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “Which of your phones, games or apps use AI or AR?” Connect this to students’ prior knowledge of computer components discussed in earlier lessons. Explain that today’s success criteria are to recognise system types, name core hardware, and evaluate the everyday impact of AI and XR.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑now (5’): Students write three devices they use that contain AI or AR; share briefly.
- Mini‑lecture (10’): Review the classification of computer systems and core components using slides.
- Interactive demo (12’): Show an AI voice assistant on a smartphone and an AR app on a tablet; discuss how hardware (CPU, sensors, display) enables them.
- Group activity (15’): In teams, match device examples to system types, identify the hardware involved, and complete the checklist worksheet.
- Ethical discussion (8’): Whole‑class debate on AI bias or AR privacy concerns; record key points on the board.
- Summary quiz / Exit ticket (5’): Quick Kahoot or written exit ticket asking students to state one way AI or XR impacts their daily life and one responsible‑use tip.
|
Conclusion:
Recap the five objectives, highlighting how hardware underpins AI and XR experiences. Students complete an exit ticket summarising one personal impact and one ethical consideration. For homework, each learner researches a newly emerging technology (e.g., generative AI, mixed reality) and writes a short paragraph on its potential everyday impact.
