Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business Studies
Lesson Topic: internal stakeholder groups: owners (sole traders, partnerships, shareholders), managers, employees
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the roles and interests of internal stakeholder groups: owners, managers, and employees.
  • Explain how the legal structure of ownership influences decision‑making and risk.
  • Analyse the ways managers balance owner objectives with employee needs.
  • Compare the primary interests of each stakeholder group and their impact on business performance.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • PowerPoint slides summarising stakeholder groups
  • Handout with summary table and stakeholder map
  • Sticky notes for group activity
  • Exit‑ticket slips
Introduction:
The lesson begins with a quick poll: Who in your family runs a business and what role do they play? Building on students’ prior knowledge of owners, we will explore how managers and employees fit into the internal stakeholder picture. By the end of the session, learners will be able to identify each group’s main interests and explain how they influence business decisions.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students answer the poll question on sticky notes and share examples of internal stakeholders.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Present owners, managers, employees with slide deck, highlighting legal structures and responsibilities.
  3. Group activity (15'): In small groups, students fill a stakeholder‑interest matrix using the handout.
  4. Class discussion (10'): Groups present findings; teacher clarifies misconceptions and links to the summary table.
  5. Case study analysis (10'): Quick analysis of a real‑world business scenario to identify stakeholder conflicts.
  6. Check for understanding (5'): Exit ticket – write one way managers balance owner and employee interests.
Conclusion:
To wrap up, we recap the key interests of owners, managers and employees and how they interact within a business. Students submit their exit tickets, providing a quick retrieval check. For homework, they research a local company and list its internal stakeholder groups with brief descriptions.
