Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Business Studies
Lesson Topic: recommend and justify an appropriate pricing method for a given situation
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the role of pricing within the marketing mix and its impact on revenue.
  • Analyse internal and external factors influencing the choice of a pricing method.
  • Apply a systematic process to recommend and justify an appropriate pricing method for a given business scenario, including basic price calculations.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Printed copies of the pricing methods table
  • Case study worksheet (eco‑friendly water bottle scenario)
  • Calculator or spreadsheet software
  • Markers and flip chart for group brainstorming
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “What influences the price you pay for a product?” Connect responses to prior learning about the marketing mix. Explain that today’s success criteria are to identify key factors, select a suitable pricing method, and justify the choice with a simple calculation.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5’) – Students list factors they think affect price; share on board.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – Review pricing objectives, internal/external factors, and overview of common methods using the table.
  3. Guided analysis (15’) – In pairs, work through the case study worksheet, identifying objectives, costs, competition, and customer willingness.
  4. Method selection (10’) – Groups match the situation to a pricing method, justify their choice; teacher circulates.
  5. Price calculation (10’) – Demonstrate cost‑plus and demand‑oriented calculations; students compute a tentative price for the case.
  6. Whole‑class debrief (5’) – Groups present their recommended method and justification; peer feedback.
  7. Exit ticket (5’) – Write one sentence summarising the key step in justifying a pricing method.
Conclusion:
Summarise how aligning the pricing method with objectives and market analysis leads to a justified price. Collect exit tickets as a quick retrieval check. Assign homework: complete a short pricing recommendation for a different product using the checklist.
