| Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT |
| Lesson Topic: Be able to control the page layout to print including specified number of pages, print area, display or hide gridlines, display or hide row and column headings |
Learning Objective/s:
- Describe how to set scaling options to control the number of printed pages.
- Apply the steps to define and modify a print area in a worksheet.
- Demonstrate how to show or hide gridlines and row/column headings when printing.
- Evaluate a spreadsheet print preview to ensure the layout meets the required specifications.
|
Materials Needed:
- Computer with spreadsheet software (e.g., Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets)
- Projector and screen
- Printed handout with step‑by‑step guide
- Sample spreadsheet file for practice
- Whiteboard and markers
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick question: “How many times have you printed a spreadsheet only to find data cut off or unwanted gridlines?” Recall that students have previously learned basic spreadsheet formatting and printing. Today they will learn to control page layout so that their printouts match exactly the required format, and they will be able to check their work using Print Preview.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑now (5'): Students examine a poorly formatted printed sheet and list three issues (checking prior knowledge).
- Mini‑lecture & demo (10'): Teacher demonstrates scaling options (Fit to / Adjust to) in the Page Layout tab.
- Guided practice – Print Area (10'): Learners select a range, set the print area, and share results (formative check).
- Guided practice – Gridlines & Headings (10'): Students toggle gridlines and headings, use Print Preview, and discuss differences.
- Independent task (15'): Using a provided spreadsheet, students configure all settings to produce a 2‑page printout as specified while the teacher circulates.
- Review & Q&A (5'): Quick recap of key steps and clarification of any doubts.
|
Conclusion:
Summarise the four page‑layout controls and why each matters for professional reports. Students complete an exit ticket by writing the three settings they would adjust first when preparing a printout. For homework, they will print a personal budget spreadsheet applying the learned settings.
