Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Global Perspectives & Research
Lesson Topic: reflect on and justify the scope, nature and limitations of the learner’s own research report (A Level only)
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the scope of a research report and identify its boundaries.
  • Explain the nature of the research methodology and justify the chosen paradigm.
  • Analyse the limitations affecting reliability and validity of the report.
  • Evaluate how to justify research choices in a reflective report.
  • Apply a structured reflective framework to assess their own report.
Materials Needed:
  • Student research reports (printed or digital)
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Handout with reflective framework table
  • Sticky notes or index cards
  • Timer
Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: “What was the biggest challenge you faced when defining your research scope?” This activates prior knowledge of their own projects. Explain that today’s focus is to critically reflect on the scope, nature and limitations of their reports and to produce a justified justification. Success criteria: students will produce a concise reflective paragraph that links each aspect to evidence from their work.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5’) – students write on a sticky note the one aspect of their report they feel most confident about; share briefly.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10’) – teacher revisits definitions of scope, nature, limitations and justification using the quick reference table.
  3. Guided analysis (15’) – in pairs, students complete the reflective framework handout for their own report, citing specific evidence.
  4. Whole‑class debrief (10’) – pairs present key findings; teacher highlights common strengths and gaps.
  5. Justification writing workshop (15’) – students draft a 150‑word justification paragraph, incorporating feasibility and ethical considerations; teacher circulates with feedback.
  6. Peer review & exit ticket (5’) – students exchange drafts, give one improvement suggestion, and answer: “Which limitation will you address in future research?”
Conclusion:

Summarise how a clear scope, appropriate methodology and transparent acknowledgement of limitations strengthen a research report. Collect exit tickets as a retrieval check. For homework, students will refine their justification paragraph and add a brief plan for mitigating identified limitations in their next project.
