Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Economics
Lesson Topic: Drawing and interpretation of the PPC diagram
Learning Objective/s:
  • Explain the basic economic problem of scarcity and choice.
  • Draw a simple Production Possibility Curve for two goods.
  • Identify and interpret points of efficiency, inefficiency, unattainable output and economic growth on the PPC.
  • Analyse how the shape of the PPC reflects constant or increasing opportunity cost.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Graph paper and rulers
  • Printed worksheet with PPC data table
  • Coloured markers or pencils
  • Calculator (optional)
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “If you had unlimited money, what would you buy first?” to highlight unlimited wants. Review the previous lesson on scarcity and choices, then state that by the end of class students will be able to draw and read a Production Possibility Curve, demonstrating their understanding of efficiency and opportunity cost.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students write one example of a scarce resource and the trade‑off it creates on mini‑whiteboards.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Explain the basic economic problem and introduce the PPC definition and key features.
  3. Guided demonstration (15'): Teacher draws axes, labels goods, plots three points (A₁, B₁, C₁) and connects them, showing straight‑line vs. bowed‑out curves.
  4. Group activity (15'): Learners use graph paper to plot the Cars‑Computers data, label points A₁–E₁, and discuss inside, on, and outside the curve.
  5. Concept check (5'): Quick quiz (clickers or show of hands) on identifying efficiency, opportunity cost and curve shifts.
  6. Extension (5'): Brief discussion of factors that cause the PPC to shift outward (resource increase, technology, education).
Conclusion:
Summarise how the PPC visualises scarcity, choice, efficiency and economic growth. Ask each student to write one “exit ticket” sentence describing what a point inside the curve indicates. For homework, assign a worksheet where they must draw a PPC for a different pair of goods and explain the shape of the curve.
