Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Global Perspectives
Lesson Topic: consider different perspectives objectively and with empathy
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the concepts of perspective, objectivity, empathy, and reflection.
  • Analyze a global issue by gathering at least three stakeholder viewpoints and evaluating evidence objectively.
  • Apply empathy to articulate stakeholder feelings and motivations.
  • Synthesize findings to produce a written personal response with actionable next steps.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Printed Reflection Worksheets (one per student)
  • Sticky notes and markers
  • Venn‑diagram template handouts
  • Whiteboard and pens
  • Timer or stopwatch
Introduction:
Begin with a short video clip showing contrasting news reports on a current global issue to hook interest. Prompt students to recall previous discussions about cultural perspectives and how they shape understanding. Explain that today they will learn to examine issues objectively, practice empathy, and produce a reflective response. Success criteria are displayed: identify multiple viewpoints, analyse evidence without bias, and articulate personal action steps.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5') – Write a quick answer to “What does it mean to view an issue objectively?”
  2. Mini‑lecture (10') – Review key concepts (perspective, objectivity, empathy, reflection) with slides.
  3. Perspective Carousel (15') – Students rotate stations containing stakeholder information, recording notes on the worksheet.
  4. Empathy Role‑Play (15') – Small groups adopt stakeholder roles, debate a policy decision, then switch roles.
  5. Synthesis & Personal Reflection (10') – Complete the worksheet sections on synthesis and personal response.
  6. Share & Debrief (10') – Volunteers share insights; teacher highlights evidence of objectivity and empathy.
Conclusion:
Recap how the class examined the issue from multiple angles and reflected on personal action. Students finish an exit ticket: “Write one concrete step you will take based on today’s analysis.” For homework, assign a short article on the same issue and ask students to add a journal entry linking the new information to the perspectives discussed.
