Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 17/01/2026
Subject: Economics
Lesson Topic: significance of a position within a PPC
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the three possible positions of a point relative to a PPC and their economic meanings.
  • Explain how each position reflects productive and allocative efficiency or inefficiency.
  • Analyse how shifts in resources or technology change the significance of a point on the PPC.
  • Apply the concept to evaluate policy proposals or growth scenarios in exam‑style questions.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Printed PPC diagram handouts
  • Worksheet with point‑identification tasks
  • Markers and coloured pens
  • Calculator (optional)
Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: “If our economy could produce more of both goods without any trade‑off, what would that look like?” Connect this to prior work on opportunity cost and ask students to predict what a point inside the PPC represents. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to identify each position and discuss its policy implications.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students label a blank PPC diagram with “on”, “inside”, “outside” points; teacher checks answers.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Review key features of the PPC and introduce efficiency concepts using the projected diagram.
  3. Guided practice (12'): In pairs, analyse scenarios, determine the point’s location, justify the economic meaning, and record on worksheet.
  4. Whole‑class discussion (8'): Share answers, highlight misconceptions, link to MRT and opportunity cost.
  5. Extension activity (10'): Explore how a rightward shift of the PPC alters each point’s status; students sketch before/after curves.
  6. Check for understanding (5'): Exit ticket – one sentence describing why a point inside the PPC indicates unemployment.
Conclusion:
Summarise that points on the PPC show full‑employment and efficiency, inside points signal under‑utilisation, and outside points require growth. Ask students to write an exit ticket stating which position best illustrates a policy of increased investment. Assign homework to create a short case study applying the PPC to a real‑world economic issue.
