Grade: Date: 18/01/2026
Subject: Business Studies
Lesson Topic: recommend and justify an appropriate leadership style for a given situation
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the main leadership styles and their key features.
  • Analyse factors that influence the choice of a leadership style in a business context.
  • Recommend and justify the most appropriate leadership style for a given case study.
  • Apply a mixed‑style approach to plan implementation steps for a product launch.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and screen
  • Printed handout of the leadership styles table
  • Case‑study worksheet (new product line)
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Sticky notes for brainstorming
  • Assessment rubric for justification
Introduction:
Begin with a short video of a CEO rallying a team and ask students to note the leadership behaviours they observe. Review prior knowledge of leadership definitions and the range of styles covered in earlier lessons. Explain that today they will evaluate which style best fits a specific business situation and will be assessed on the quality of their justification.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students list three leadership behaviours seen in the video (quick check).
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Review the six leadership styles and the key factors influencing style choice using slides.
  3. Guided analysis (10'): In pairs, complete a factor checklist for the provided case study (task nature, team skills, time pressure, etc.).
  4. Decision making (10'): Groups select a primary leadership style (and optional secondary style) and draft a brief justification following the rubric.
  5. Whole‑class share (10'): Each group presents its recommendation; peers provide one constructive comment.
  6. Reflection & exit ticket (5'): Students answer an exit ticket question – “One reason why the chosen style fits the situation.”
Conclusion:
Recap how aligning leadership style with situational factors can drive project success and highlight key points from the case study discussion. Collect exit tickets as a quick check of understanding. For homework, ask students to locate a real‑world example of a transformational leader, describe the context, and link it to the factors discussed in class.
