Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 01/12/2025
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Be able to place text or objects in a table
Learning Objective/s:
  • Insert a table into a document.
  • Place text, images, or other objects into specific cells.
  • Merge and split cells to achieve the required layout.
  • Align content horizontally and vertically within cells.
Materials Needed:
  • Computer with a word processor (Word or LibreOffice Writer).
  • Projector and screen for demonstrations.
  • Worksheet containing layout tasks and a checklist.
  • Image files (e.g., school logo) for insertion.
  • Printed handout of table‑formatting shortcuts.
Introduction:
Begin with a quick visual of a poorly formatted page and ask students how they would organise the information. Recall the previous lesson on basic document formatting. Explain that today they will learn to create professional tables, place text and objects, merge cells, and align content – the success criteria for the lesson.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5') – Identify layout problems in a sample document.
  2. Mini‑lecture & demo (10') – Inserting a table, navigating cells, and basic tools.
  3. Guided practice (15') – Placing text, inserting images, merging and splitting cells, aligning content.
  4. Independent task (15') – Create the Year 9 timetable table as specified.
  5. Peer review using checklist (5') – Verify rows, columns, merges, and alignment.
  6. Whole‑class debrief (5') – Discuss common issues and answer questions.
Conclusion:
Recap the four objectives, confirming that students can now insert, populate, merge, and align tables. Collect an exit ticket where each pupil writes one tip for aligning objects in a table. Assign homework: design a simple newsletter layout using a table, applying the techniques practiced today.
