Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Be able to save and print files in a variety of formats including a document, screenshots, database reports, data tables, graphs/charts, a web page in browser view, a web page in HTML view
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the main file formats used for documents, screenshots, database reports, data tables, charts and web pages and explain when each is appropriate.
  • Demonstrate how to save a document, screenshot, database report, data table, chart, and web page (browser and HTML view) in the required format.
  • Apply the correct printing procedure for each file type, including preview and page‑setup adjustments.
  • Use consistent naming conventions and folder structures to organise saved files.
Materials Needed:
  • Computer lab with internet access
  • Word processor (MS Word or LibreOffice Writer)
  • Spreadsheet software (Excel or LibreOffice Calc)
  • Database application (Access or MySQL Workbench)
  • Image editor (Paint or GIMP)
  • Projector and screen for demonstrations
  • Handout summarising file formats and step‑by‑step procedures
Introduction:

Begin with a quick “match the extension” activity to activate prior knowledge of common file types. Discuss why choosing the correct format matters for assessments and real‑world tasks. Explain that by the end of the lesson students will be able to save and print any required file correctly and follow a consistent naming system.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students complete a short quiz on file extensions and their typical uses.
  2. Teacher demonstration (10'): Saving and printing a Word document in .docx and .pdf formats.
  3. Guided practice (10'): Capture a screenshot, edit in Paint, save as .png and print.
  4. Paired activity (10'): Export a sample database query as PDF, verify layout, and print.
  5. Mini‑workshop (10'): Save a data table as .csv and .xlsx, set print area, then print a chart saved as .png.
  6. Whole‑class demo (10'): Save a web page in browser view (Save as PDF) and HTML view (Save page source), then print each.
  7. Check for understanding (5'): Exit ticket – list three key steps for saving and printing a chart.
Conclusion:

Recap the four main categories of files covered and the essential save‑as and print steps for each. Students complete an exit ticket summarising the naming convention they will use for future assignments. Assign homework: students must save and print a short report in two different formats and bring the printed copies to the next lesson.
