Materials Needed:
- Projector or interactive whiteboard
- Printed vocabulary cards with images
- Floor‑plan diagram of a typical house
- Worksheet for writing task
- Audio recording of the sample dialogue
- Whiteboard and markers
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick “What’s your favourite room?” poll to activate prior knowledge. Show a short video of a house tour in French and ask students to note any familiar words. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to describe every part of a home clearly and accurately.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑Now (5'): Matching cards – students match French room names to pictures.
- Vocabulary Presentation (10'): Teacher projects tables of rooms, furniture, garden items and appliances; brief pronunciation drill.
- Adjective Practice (5'): Quick board race to pair adjectives with nouns (e.g., « grand canapé gris »).
- Dialogue Modelling (15'): Play audio of the sample dialogue, analyse structure, then pair students for role‑play.
- Writing Task (10'): Students write a 80‑100‑word description of their own home using a checklist of required vocab.
- Review & Exit Ticket (5'): Whole‑class recap of key vocab; students write one sentence describing a room on a sticky note.
|
Conclusion:
Summarise the main vocabulary groups covered and highlight a few well‑written student sentences. Collect exit tickets as a quick retrieval check. For homework, ask students to create a labelled floor‑plan of their house in French, using at least twelve of the new terms.
