| Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT |
| Lesson Topic: Be able to apply text alignment including left, right, centre, fully justified |
Learning Objective/s:
- Identify the four types of text alignment.
- Select and apply left, right, centre, and justified alignment using word‑processor tools.
- Explain appropriate contexts for each alignment style.
- Evaluate the visual impact of alignment choices on document readability.
|
Materials Needed:
- Computer with word‑processing software (e.g., MS Word, Google Docs)
- Projector and screen
- Sample worksheet with short paragraphs
- Alignment checklist handout
- Internet access for online demo (optional)
|
Introduction:
Begin with a quick visual poll: display four short paragraphs each using a different alignment and ask students which looks most readable. Review prior knowledge that they can format text size and font. Explain that today they will master aligning text and will be assessed by applying each alignment correctly in a practice document.
|
Lesson Structure:
- Do‑Now (5’) – Students view the displayed examples and note differences.
- Mini‑lecture (10’) – Define left, right, centre, justified alignment and discuss typical uses (slide and diagram).
- Demonstration (10’) – Teacher models selecting a paragraph and applying each alignment in the word processor, highlighting toolbar icons.
- Guided Practice (15’) – Students open a new document, type four short paragraphs, and apply a different alignment to each, with teacher circulating.
- Pair Check (5’) – Learners exchange documents and verify correct alignments using the checklist.
- Whole‑class reflection (5’) – Discuss when each alignment is appropriate and common pitfalls of justified text.
|
Conclusion:
Summarise the four alignment options and their best uses. Students complete an exit ticket by writing one scenario for each alignment. Assign homework to create a one‑page flyer using appropriate alignments for headings and body text.
