Lesson Plan
Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Business Studies
Lesson Topic: non-financial methods of motivation, e.g. job enrichment, job rotation, training, opportunities for promotion, praise, employee of the month
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the six key non‑financial motivation methods and their main features.
  • Evaluate the advantages and possible limitations of each method.
  • Apply a step‑by‑step plan to implement these methods in a business setting.
  • Analyse how non‑financial motivation can affect employee satisfaction and performance.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and laptop for presentation
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed handout with the comparison table
  • Worksheet containing the implementation plan template
  • Sticky notes for the opening poll
  • Motivation survey template for exit ticket
Introduction:

Start with a quick poll where students write on sticky notes what motivates them at school or work, highlighting that not all motivation is monetary. Briefly revisit the previous lesson on financial incentives and contrast the two approaches. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to identify, compare and plan non‑financial motivation methods, which will be demonstrated through a group activity and an exit ticket.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students complete the motivation poll and share a few responses.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Teacher presents the six non‑financial methods with real‑world examples.
  3. Comparative analysis (8'): Pairs fill in pros and cons on the handout table.
  4. Planning activity (15'): Small groups use the 6‑step guide to design an implementation plan on the worksheet.
  5. Scenario review (7'): Groups present their key actions; teacher provides feedback on feasibility.
  6. Exit ticket (5'): Individually write one method they would prioritize in a business and justify their choice.
Conclusion:

Recap the six non‑financial methods and the importance of clear, fair implementation. Collect the exit tickets to gauge understanding and identify any misconceptions. For homework, ask students to research a real company that uses a non‑financial motivation technique and write a short paragraph describing its impact.
