Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Information Communication Technology ICT
Lesson Topic: Know and understand characteristics, uses, advantages and disadvantages of video-conferencing, audio-conferencing, web-conferencing
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the key characteristics of video‑, audio‑ and web‑conferencing.
  • Compare the advantages and disadvantages of each conferencing type.
  • Identify appropriate real‑world situations for using each technology.
  • Evaluate bandwidth and security considerations when selecting a conferencing tool.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Computer with internet access
  • Sample video‑, audio‑ and web‑conferencing platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams, Google Meet)
  • Handout with comparison table
  • Worksheet for scenario analysis
Introduction:
Begin with a short video clip showing a global team meeting to spark interest. Ask students what tools they have used to communicate remotely and record their ideas. Explain that today they will learn how to choose the right conferencing method and what factors influence that choice.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5'): Students list advantages of a recent online meeting they attended.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Present characteristics of video‑, audio‑ and web‑conferencing using slides.
  3. Group activity (15'): In small groups, analyse a scenario worksheet and decide which conferencing type is most suitable, justifying bandwidth and security considerations.
  4. Whole‑class debrief (10'): Groups share decisions; teacher highlights key comparisons and fills the comparison table on board.
  5. Guided practice (10'): Students explore a demo web‑conferencing tool, test screen‑share and breakout rooms.
  6. Check for understanding (5'): Quick quiz (Kahoot or paper) on advantages/disadvantages.
Conclusion:
Summarise the main differences between the three conferencing methods and revisit the success criteria. Students complete an exit ticket stating which tool they would recommend for a given situation and why. Assign homework: research a real‑world case study of a company using one of these technologies and prepare a brief report.
