Lesson Topic: why efficiency is important for a business

  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Handout with efficiency ratio tables
  • Calculator or spreadsheet software
  • Sample data sheets for group activity
  • Sticky notes for brainstorming
 Introduction:
Begin with a quick poll: How many students can name a business that became more successful by working faster or using fewer resources? Connect this to prior learning on production costs and explain that today they will explore why efficiency matters. By the end of the lesson they will be able to define efficiency, calculate it, and explain its impact on business performance.
Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Students answer the poll question and write one example on a sticky note; teacher collects for later.
  2. Mini‑lecture (10'): Define efficiency and outline the four types using slides.
  3. Guided practice (10'): Pairs calculate efficiency ratios from the provided table.
  4. Group activity (12'): Analyse the car‑manufacturer case, identify efficiency gains, and compute percentage improvements.

Conclusion:
