Subject: Spanish
Lesson Topic: Self, family and friends
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe personal information (name, age, address) in Spanish using appropriate vocabulary.
  • Name at least eight family members or friends correctly in Spanish.
  • Use possessive adjectives and present‑tense regular verbs to talk about family members’ characteristics and activities.
  • Ask and answer basic questions about relationships and family structure in Spanish.
  • Write a short paragraph (80‑100 words) describing one’s own family, meeting the language criteria.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and laptop
  • Printed vocabulary handouts
  • Family‑tree worksheet
  • Character cards for role‑play
  • Audio clip of a family description
  • Whiteboard and markers
Introduction:

Show a photo of a mixed‑age family and ask students to guess the relationships in Spanish. Connect this to their prior knowledge of personal details they have already practiced. Explain that by the end of the lesson they will be able to introduce any family member and answer simple questions about them.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑Now (5'): Students write three personal details (name, age, city) in Spanish on a sticky note.
  2. Vocabulary review (10'): Flashcard game for family terms with pronunciation modeling.
  3. Grammar mini‑lesson (10'): Quick recap of possessive adjectives and present‑tense verb endings; guided choral practice.
  4. Family Tree activity (15'): Students draw a simple tree, label each member in Spanish, and write three sentences about each (age, occupation, personality).
  5. Role‑play (10'): In pairs, students use character cards to introduce a friend or family member, employing possessive adjectives and present‑tense verbs.
  6. Listening comprehension (10'): Play the audio clip; students answer comprehension questions orally in Spanish.
  7. Consolidation quiz (5'): Quick Kahoot/exit‑ticket with three short questions to check understanding.
Conclusion:

Summarise the key language points—vocabulary, possessive adjectives, and present‑tense verbs—by revisiting the family tree. For the exit ticket, each student writes one sentence describing a family member using a possessive adjective. Assign the homework paragraph and the matching worksheet.
