Grade: Date: 25/02/2026
Subject: Business Studies
Lesson Topic: advantages of entering new markets in other countries, e.g. increase sales, spread risk
Learning Objective/s:
  • Describe the key advantages of entering foreign markets.
  • Explain how market entry can increase sales and spread business risk.
  • Analyse the step‑by‑step process for entering a new market and evaluate its contribution to growth.
  • Apply a simple risk‑diversification calculation to a given scenario.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector and laptop
  • Whiteboard and markers
  • Printed handout of the advantage & comparison tables
  • Case‑study worksheets
  • Calculator
  • Sticky notes for exit tickets
Introduction:

Begin with a quick poll: “Which global brands do you see daily and why are they everywhere?” Connect this to the previous lesson on domestic growth strategies. State that today students will identify why businesses expand abroad, compare domestic and international markets, and outline the steps needed for successful entry.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Do‑now (5'): Short quiz on domestic growth methods to activate prior knowledge.
  2. Teacher input (10'): Slide presentation of the six key advantages and the domestic vs. international comparison table.
  3. Group activity (15'): Teams complete a Venn diagram comparing domestic and international entry, then discuss risk‑spreading benefits.
  4. Case‑study task (15'): Using a worksheet, groups choose a product, identify a target foreign market, and map the five steps (research, adaptation, distribution, marketing, monitoring).
  5. Plenary (5'): Each group shares one advantage and one challenge; students write an exit ticket summarising the main growth benefit.
Conclusion:

Recap the advantages of entering new markets and how they contribute to business growth. Collect exit tickets to check understanding and assign homework: research a real company that has recently entered a foreign market and write a brief report outlining the advantages they sought and any challenges faced.
