Subject: French
Lesson Topic: Colours
Learning Objective/s:
  • Identify and pronounce at least ten French colour words.
  • Apply correct gender and number agreement for colour adjectives.
  • Construct descriptive sentences using “être” with colour adjectives.
  • Use colour vocabulary in spoken and written contexts to describe objects and personal preferences.
Materials Needed:
  • Projector or interactive whiteboard
  • Printed colour vocabulary handout
  • Colour‑wheel poster with French labels
  • Flashcards with colour words and pictures
  • Worksheets for matching and fill‑in‑the‑blank exercises
  • Audio recordings of pronunciation (optional)
Introduction:

Show a vibrant rainbow image and ask students to name the colours they see in French. Connect this to their prior knowledge of adjectives from the previous lesson. Explain that by the end of class they will be able to describe objects accurately using colour adjectives.

Lesson Structure:
  1. Warm‑up / Do‑now (5’) – Students view the rainbow and write down as many French colour words as they can.
  2. Vocabulary presentation (10’) – Teacher projects the colour table, models pronunciation, and students repeat chorally.
  3. Grammar focus – adjective agreement (10’) – Mini‑lecture with examples; students match masculine/feminine forms on mini‑whiteboards.
  4. Guided practice (10’) – Whole‑class fill‑in‑the‑blank worksheet using “être” and colour adjectives; peer checking.
  5. Communicative activity (10’) – Pairs describe a bedroom picture, using at least three colour adjectives; teacher circulates for feedback.
  6. Assessment / Exit ticket (5’) – Students write one sentence describing an object in the classroom, demonstrating correct agreement.
Conclusion:

Recap that students have mastered colour vocabulary, agreement rules, and the use of “être” for description. Collect exit tickets as a quick retrieval check. For homework, ask learners to write a short paragraph describing the colours in their bedroom or favourite outfit, using at least five colour adjectives.
